Bed Fabrication

What is the reason for me building this thing you ask? It gives me far more flexibility in packing and accessing gear. the bed/shelf is the perfect place to secure lightweight items such as a stack of body boards, tents, sleeping bags/pads, folding chairs, etc. when the shelf is loaded up, all the things under it are still fully accessable. The second feature is that i can comfortably sleep on it if i want to. this is especially nice when i'm driving down the california coast and i just want to pull off somewhere and sleep. like a rest area, or in the ocean beach area of san francisco (i've gotten some very good surf at ocean beach).

where do i hook bungee cords on the window side you ask?

i pull the cord loops up!

just enough room to still unlock the tailgate and pull the handle to open it.

holes drilled in the legs of the bed so i can use tie down straps on both sides of the cargo area with the original tie down anchor points.

fibreboard cut and bolted in with 7 carriage bolts. still waiting for my grey carpet to arrive.

all painted and bolted in (7 bolts), it is very sturdy.

Fabrication is complete.

I've got the basics worked out, leg bases and leg height.

The removal of one side of the rear seat opens up alot of space. 4 5-gallon water jugs and a toolbox will come in handy.
