Engine Work

Here's the engine after a very long list of work.

NEW:

Oxygen sensor
K&N air filter
distributor cap

cylinder head gaskets
cylinder heads inspected for warping and cracks
water pump
thermostat
radiator
hoses
timing belt
other belts
fuel filter
spark plugs and wires
oil changed in engine, transmission, transfer case and both differentials

My mechanic told me that this was not the original engine(!) and that it was one of the most powerful 4runners he had ever driven. this truck had massive hesitation when i bought it. 20 miles after i put a new distributor cap on it, it blew out one of the head gaskets. oh well, better now than in baja.

It is a very good idea to have your vehicle checked out by a mechanic you trust before going off to the wild wilderness of Baja California, especially if the vehicle is a recent purchase. You probably don't have the support that a baja racer has. it's just you and your equipment. the more preventative maintaince you do the less probability of a major break down. at least go for some new belts and hoses and complete fluid changes!
