Front Suspension
sway-a-way heavy duty 25mm torsion bar
compared with the stock torsion bar, wow!
passenger side took about 30 minutes, drivers side took about ten minutes.
this install was very, very easy. you don't even have to take the wheels off!
i sprayed the bolts with liquid wrench three times the night before and they
came out easily without breaking. they were clean to start with however.
i dialed in about 1 inch of lift, the rim to fender distance is now 15 1/8"
the ride is stiffer, now it is perfectly balanced with the heavy duty rear coil springs.
I have upgraded the front shocks to Bilstein. They are fantastic.
Rebuilt idler arm assembly. Replaced bushings and grease seal. I completed this task without removing
assembly from vehicle. Resulted in more responsive and tighter steering - a good thing.
Rear Suspension
- Old Man Emu "heavy duty" 1.5 inch rear lift coil springs from the Central 4wd retail store in Portland. These are awesome, they are not too stiff, they gave me 3 inches of lift while only being about 1 inch longer than the stock springs. They have 330 pounds more spring rate than the stock springs. These are perfect for handling the extra weight of the auxilary gas tank, the second spare tire and the jerry can carrier. as well as the gamut of surfing equipment, food, water and supplies that will be necessary for a sucessful baja surfing expedition. the factory springs just aren't up to the task, of all the mods i have done, this one was the most necessary.
compared with the stock coil spring, wow!
Teal shock boots match the color on my Oregon "Salmon" license plates...
Shocks are Explorer ProComp ES9000
load positioning sensor arm, disconnected from the axle and tied up to the frame
so i have maximum rear braking power at all times!
