Fitting shims between the upper and lower bearings.
I kept putting in an even amount of shims on both sides of the bearing,
using thicker shims at first. When I get close to having enough shims,
I started using .001 or .002 inch shims. After I add shims to both sides,
I tighten down the main bearing bolts snug, and see if the crankshaft
still turns. I know I'm close when I can tighten the main bolts, and the
crankshaft turns with some effort. A .001 inch shim can be pulled out
of both sides of the bearing after the bearing wears in.
