Business Trip, Sure Why Not!
I was lucky to go to Hawaii
to do a survey on the Big
Island. We were called out to delineate a void caused by a lava
tube (a gas bubble caused by flowing lava). The survey was a success,
and it was time for some tourist activities. My boss Gary Crosby
took me to Volcanos National Park.
That was really cool, because we actually were able to walk trough a lava
tube, walk on lava flows, and feel the steam from fumerals.

We stayed at some at Uncle Billy's in Hilo. It was
a very nostalgic place with many tiki carvings, Hula dancers and a beautiful
view of the ocean.
Dixie decided we should make a vacation out of it, so
Ratih and Dixie came to meet Gary and I on the Island of Oahu. While
waiting for them, Gary and I visited Pearl
Harbor. When Dixie and Ratih got there we headed to the famous
North Shore.
On the North Shore we enjoyed visiting the Polynesian
Cultural Center and the Mormon
temple. I especially enjoyed visiting the famous surf spots.
I was bummed because I didn't have a surfboard, but Ratih and I found an
old 1970's board at a rummage sale. I had a great time surfing.
But had some bad news when I found out we forgot to load the camera when
the waves were about six feet. The next day the waves dropped to
3 feet.

After surfing Ratih and I decided to drive around the Island
and check out the west side. I wanted to see the famous Buffalo Keaulana.
We were lucky, because when we got there he was longboarding some tiny
waves with his grandchildren.

We had lots of fun, and we can't wait to go back
again someday.
