HOLLISTER HILLSDecember 22, 1996
We weren't there for more than 5 minutes and Rodney decides to drive through the sand pit where the water run-off is. I wanted to warn him not to go through it, but it was too late! His Landcruiser was half way submerged in the water and burried. I made an attempt to try and pull him out, while trying not to get stuck myself, but unfortunatly, I was only able to pull him over 6 inches before my truck sank down to it's frame. It would be just my luck that my battery dies!! We were all alone for about a half an hour waiting for the rest of our buddies to come back from their little trip up the hill ahead of us. It started to pour rain like crazy! Of course this made the situation worse!
Our buddy George finally came back leading the others and he pulled me out of the "quick sand pit." Rodney wasn't so lucky! Everyone else tried all they could do to pull the Cruiser out. As George was at the top of the hill trying to pull Rodney up, one of the strap's had snapped and came back into the windshield. Mark who was sitting inside, luckily had his glasses on because the glass had shattered into his face. Fortunatly we weren't using a clevis with the strap!
We tried tying trucks to trucks and broke about fifteen tow straps and one winch cable. The Cruiser never even budged, things weren't looking too good. Meanwhile, there was a lot of rain and lots of spectators getting their jollies laughing, taking photos and making movies. A Hummer was among the spectators just watching us for at least an hour . I finally walked over to the driver and asked him if he would help since our options had pretty much ran out. His rig was big enough and he had a monster winch on the front. With his help, after three hours of this whole fiasco, the Cruiser was pulled out within 30 minutes, thanks to the Hummer.
Later that day, we decided to go play in a field full of mud. I managed to pull out about 3 stock trucks that had burried themselves. This is the last straight picture that I have of the driver side.
I drove up a creek bed and no matter what I did, kept sliding into this darn bush! Needless to say, it won the battle, leaving dents on the fender, door and bed!
Meanwhile back at the ranch..........The Hummer soon came to the rescue.
