Veenendaal Trip #1

A Saturday in the Dutch "desert"...

ven0001.jpg On our way to Veenendaal.
We took a ferry over a small river here.
ven0002.jpg The first interesting "obstacle" -- a small puddle in the middle of nowhere.
It was a playground for the others with their MT tires but a small obstacle for my old, original AT's.
ven0003.jpg Everyone had to try that one.
ven0005.jpg Then we had to check where to go next...
ven0008.jpg ...and found some sand dunes.

This was Gilbert's first try to get up -- he did not make it.
It is much steeper than it looks like on the picture.
ven0010.jpg While digging some deep holes he was going straight down instead of forward.
"WHO HAS LOCKERS FOR ME?!!!"
ven0011.jpg But he finally made it with more speed.
ven0012.jpg The CJ tried it too but he had water in the distribution cap.
The engine died on the hill and it took some time to get it running again.
ven0015.jpg After all that sand digging it was time for a Dutch lunch.
ven0016.jpg A nice oldtimer was out driving around here.
It's a DAF -- made in Eindhoven.
ven0019.jpg Soccer time! The soccer addicts had to find a pub with TV.
ven0020.jpg They found a pub but it was too crowded -- still looking for another one.
They are already starting to make love here on the street.
ven0021.jpg No pub -- heading home. This is a shot from the front while driving.
ven0022.jpg And from the rear.
ven0025.jpg The Netherlands won the match!
On our way back to the trail we stopped at a crowded market place.
ven0026.jpg Big party -- everybody was yelling.
ven0027.jpg Back to play in the water for awhile.
ven0028.jpg
ven0029.jpg Then Gilbert found a very steep hill. Too steep -- he did not make it!
This hill was around 35-40°!
ven0031.jpg Winch time! :-)
ven0030.jpg But he would not be Gilbert if he gave up so easily. He tried it again -- very hard. The second time this day that he is digging some nice, deep holes.

Gilbert: "Maybe with disconnected sway-bars I could have made it. Here I decided to buy ARB's.".
ven0032.jpg Winch time again!
ven0033.jpg
ven0034.jpg No tree saver? No tree anymore.
He killed a tree and maybe his winch cable.
ven0035.jpg But winching Gilbert was not all the fun.
Some charming girls came by to join us this day.
ven0036.jpg      *Centered*
He does not like winching here. Is digging more fun?
ven0037.jpg Still digging after ca. 30 minutes!
ven0038.jpg Unlocking the CJ hubs and heading home. It is getting dark.
