Pro Design. What's Pro Design? Well, What's in a name? Let's see. Pro. As in professional. Design. As in designing, modifying and fabricating. Just another hop-up shop? No way. Pro Design owner Tom Burba is a consummate professional and a perfectionist. He prides himself on turning out products that are of "works" quality. Pro Design has recently made a name for itself by producing the best kill switch currently available. All of Team Suzuki and many other top Pros swore by it last season.

Little does anyone know, that shop with the kill switches is a full-on high-performance emporium.

What about the bike? This is the machine that test rider J.J. Smulo has been campaigning since getting off his Pro Design KX80 three-wheeler. Burba has been a long-time sponsor of J.J.'s and jumped at the opportunity to build him the ultimate Tecate-4.

THE MAKING OF A WORKS MACHINE

The first thing Burba did upon receiving the machine was to strip it down to the frame! Before any mods were made, the frame was stripped of its dull silver paint and all unnecessary basketry, then sprayed with a bright bluecoat of Imron paint. The engine was next. The head and cylinder were bead-blasted and the cases got a shot of paint stripper to give them that trick "works" look. Every single piece of the machine was taken apart, checked, measured or modified, and then put back onto the machine with all the care of a nuclear technicians working with plutonium. Here's what it took to transform a fun-of-the-mill Tecate-4 into a full-on works machine.
