I was
born in a suburb of Taipei, Taiwan, where my ancestors migrated 300 years
ago from southern China. My hometown was once a small riverside village
called "Monk's Land," so named mainly for its cultivation by the monks
of the riverside temple.
Taiwan is a localized and international island-country where you will discover ancient China/Taiwan mingled with the modern things found in other advanced countries of the world. At the same time that you will be amazed by the devout, primitive religious activities practiced in the countryside, you will find advanced technology widespread in metropolitan areas. Or you will gaze in wonder at traditional Taiwanese opera performed amidst the modern city buildings. And you will likely feel quite at ease asking people for directions, even if they can only respond with sign language and a smile. Come to visit us.
