Here you can see the checkerplate before it's painted. After doing all of the bodywork we cut, shaped, and riveted the checkerplate to cover the full back corners of the samurai. We got a full checkerplate aluminum box-liner made for a Ford pickup. Let me tell you, cutting and bending this stuff is a huge pain the the butt. We used a jig-saw with plenty of teflon lube as we cut. I bent it into shape by pounding on it against the cement floor with a hammer.
Here is the passenger side after being painted. After painting we used black silicone to seal all the way around the checkerplate.
Here's the passenger side after the fenderflares have been put on and it has been siliconed up. Notice the checkerplate accent on the stock roll-bar.
This is a picture of the custom rocker-guards. You can see it at the bottom left of the screen. We used the rail caps from the bed liner kit and cut it down to size. It already had a 90 degree bend in it so we have 2 inches of protection on the underside as well.
