Variant Spellings; Caicey, Cassy, Keachy, MacCasey, O'Cahassy.
A number of unrelated septs bear this name and they are scattered throughout the country. They are to be found in counties Dublin, Fermanagh, Mayo, Roscommon, Limerick and Cork. The small MacCasey sept was numerous for a time in Co. Monaghan.
In Irish the name is O Cathasaigh or descended from Cathasach. It is said to be derived from cathach, warlike.
Joseph Gregory O'Casey was Minister of Marine in France and Sean O'Casey ( b.1884) was an internationally famous playwright.
