(O)Fallon;
Variant Spellings; Fallen, Fallin, Falloon, Faloon, Faloona.
In Irish the name is O Fallamhain and is found in a number of counties, namely Galway and Roscommon; in pre-Norman times in Co. Meath and as Falloon in Co. Armagh.
In Co. Roscommon the sept lived in the barony of Athlone where the ruins of their chief's castle may still be seen. The sept furnished two medieval bishops that of Elphin and Derry.
In the United States James O'Fallon (1749-1794) fought in the American War of Independence and was the founder of the Anti-British Society. His son Col. John O'Fallon (1791-1865) was a noted philanthropist while another son Benjamin O'Fallon (1793-1842) became known as the "Father of the Tribes" as he established friendly relation with the native Americans.
