(O)Hogan;
Variant Spellings; Houghegan, Huggins.
The territory of the (O)Hogans was in northern Tipperary on the shores of Lough Derg though today the name is met frequently in Clare, Cork and Limerick. The O prefix is not being resumed to any great extent with this name.
In Irish the name is O hOgain or descended from Ogan their eponymous ancestor.
John Hogan (d. 1858) was a sculptor of international reputation and Patrick Hogan was the first Minister of Agriculture of the Irish Free State.
