MacMaster;

The name is derived from three sources, the Irish MacMasters who are found today in counties Cavan and Longford, the Scottish Mastersons of counties Antrim and Down and the English Mastersons who were granted land in Co. Wexford.
In Irish the name is Mac an Mhaighistir or 'Son of the Teacher (master)'. It is derived from maighistear meaning master.
William MacMaster (1811-1887) founded the University of Toronto.
