(Mac)Nulty;

Variant Spellings; McAnulty, McKnulty, McNalty, McNulty, Nalty, Naulty, Nolty, Nulty, (Mac)Connulty.

The name is translated in Irish as Mac an Ultaigh (son of the Ulsterman). The Mac Nultys have always lived in Donegal up to the present day. Because of their Donegal location they have been overshadowed by the more powerful O'Donnell sept, sometimes united with the O’Donnells and sometimes against them.

The name is also found in County Meath where the prefix is usually omitted and in County Clare where it is changed to (Mac)Connulty.

Frank Joseph MacNulty (1872-1926) the American labor leader was the son of Owen MacNulty, an Irish immigrant and civil war veteran. Bernard MacNulty (d.1892) was the founder of the first branch of the Fenian Brotherhood in the U.S.A.
