Pigot;
Variant Spellings; Pickett, Pigote, Piggott, Pigott.
The Pigots have been in Ireland since the time of Elizabeth1. It is an English name that has been associated with the city of Dublin although in 1659 the family received grants of land in Co. Leix. Today the Pigots are also to be found in Cork and Limerick.
In Irish Pigot is phonetically translated as Piogoid.
The Pigots were for the most part pro-English though, as they lived in the country, they developed Irish and Jacobite sympathies. For example, John Edward Pigot (1822-1871) was a Young Irelander.
