(O)Quigley;
Variant Spellings; Cogley, Twigley, Kegley.
Quigley is a Connacht name, being located mainly in the barony of Carra in county Mayo.
The name is rarely found with the O prefix nowadays.
Two members of the sept, both priests are noteworthy. Fr.James O'Coigley of Armagh had many exciting adventures during the French Revolution and was hanged in England in 1798, the evidence for the Crown being undoubtedly false. In the US Dr. James Edward Quigley, Bishop of Buffalo was a prominent trade unionist and strike negotiator.
The motto of the Quigley coat of arms is 'Celeriter'.
