(O)Scully;
Variant Spellings; O'Scully, Scullion, Skoolin.
The Scullys originated in Co. Westmeath and were driven southward by the Normans, a trend that continued so that they are most numerous in Co. Cork today. Scully is used as a synonym for Scullion, a name that is found mostly in county Derry.
(O)Scully in Irish is O Scolaidhe or scholar, while (O)Scullion is translated as O Scollain.
James Scully founded Scully's Bank in Tipperary; another James Scully was an American poet and Vincent Scully was a Canadian cabinet minister.
James Henry Scullion (1876-1953) was Prime Minister of Australia.
