Waldron;
Variant Spellings; Colley, MacWaldrin, Waldronn, Waldrum, Wellesley, Welsley, Wesley.
The name Waldron is a Norman one that has been in the country since the Norman invasion. The branch that settled in Mayo is derived from the Costelloes while that of Co. Meath is descended from the Wellesleys.
In Irish the Connacht branch is translated as Mac Bhaildrin (son of Baildrin), while that from the Wellesleys is Mac Bhalronta (son of Waleran) .
The most famous of the Wellesleys was, of course, Arthur Wellesley (1769-1852) who became the Duke of Wellington.
