Background and History: While Michael was in High-School, he trained in Judo, Boxing and was captain of the football team. He had already earned his black belt in Judo by the age of 15 and was thinking of making a career out of it. Then a good friend of his finally talked him into going with him to a professional wrestling tournament over the state lie in St. Louis at the Cervantes Convention Center. He wasn't that interested in the sport but he decided to go with him cause he heard he'd get some good laughes. As he watched some of the wrestlers he and his buddy were joking around and Michael started saying that he was 10 times as tough as all those guys in the ring. So his friend made him a bet that he couldn't last ten days on there highschool's wrestling team. Michael wasn't the type of person to back down and he took his friend up on that bet. So Michael went and tried out for the school team and like he expected he made the team. Within those ten days not only had he learned the basics but he was pinning some of the best guys on his team. After that experience he slowly grew very interested in Professional Wrestling, and decided he wanted to take part in the business.
He became a star athlete at Northwestern University, where he captained the wrestling team. He was majoring in Computer Science and thinking of going into a government job. On the side Michael was also training for a professional career at the infamous "DUNGEON" run by Stew Hart. He learned many submission and technical moves there, and decided to adopt that style of wrestling while adding his martial arts background into the swing of thing every now and then. Upon graduation, he surprised everyone by accepting an invitation to attend a professional wrestling school in Japan run by the living legend Tanka Mitshu, rather than accepting one of the many offers he received to work for the United States Government's Financial District and also a very worthy offer from Microsoft.
He trained for about a year under the wing of Tankana Mitshuono. Then came Steele's big break and he made his pro-wrestling debut in the Network Championship Wrestling (NCW) in August of 1995 and enjoyed much early success, but was never given a title match despite his enormous popularity with the fans. While in this federation he had a few major feuds but nothing compared to his fued with Lord Dragon, and during this fued he won the affection of the lovely NCW wrestler Jessica Starbird... she would became his first manager while balancing her own career as well. Shortly there after, he was seriously injured by the Lord Dragon during a Battle Royal tournament when the Dragon hit him with a steel chair sending him out of the ring and injuring his leg. Steele soon vowed revenge on him, but while he was recovering from his injury, the NCW declared bankruptcy.
After fully recovering, Steele signed two multi-million dollar contracts with International Wrestling Association (IWA) and the the Extreme Fantasy Wrestling (EFW)... the sole successors to the NCW. Steele enjoyed much success in both federations winning a total of thirteen championships in the EFW and another five in the IWA. But despite all these numerous other successes, he was unsuccessful in getting what he wanted most. During his time in the IWA, Steele was thrilled to fing out that his enemy Lord Dragon would be entering the tournament for the IWA Television That was his revenge against Lord Dragon, and after losing his chance to to become the first IWA Television Champion, Steele angrily ended his relationship with the IWA... and even more shockingly, with President X!
Angry and pissed off he decided to sign a contract with Ultimate Carnage Wrestling (UCW). He then formed the Tag Team known as the "Dirty Pair" with Jason Woodstock aka "The Texas Slayer". They quickly became a force to be reckoned with. They won the UCW Tag Team titles twice, and held the record for the longest title defense during their second reign as Tag champs, which lasted slightly under a year. Then he and Woodstock decided to form a stable. Known as "Peaceful Shall Fall", and the Tag Team split up and both of them went into singles competition. P.S.F became the biggest stable in the UCW recruiting almost half of the fed's roster. The stable was clearly taking charge, when Steele faced The Rocky Mountain Master, and cleanly defeated him after a long hard fought match which lasted over an hour. Then shortly after he became the UCW World Heavyweight Champion, and P.S.F was fully in command. They were attacking random wrestlers, and even put the president of UCW in the hospital. The President was in critical condition and Michael Steele still attacked in the critical ward with an empty wheel chair. Not long after that Jason Woodstock P.S.F formed an alliance against Michael which lead to a match for his belt at the Stained Glass PPV. The match went underway with Michael getting almost murdered by Woodstock at the bell. But Michael came back with powerful facial kicks and punches. He was on the verge of winning the match. Until the P.S.F hit the ring disqualifying Woodstock. But Michael was smarter then that and ran out through the crowd with his belt in hand. Eventually the UCW was shut down and put out of business by the war between Michael Steele and P.S.F leaving Steele with the belt and the satisfaction of dismantling a whole wrestling federation from the ground up. Now unemployed Michael had to decide what he would do with the rest of his career.
No longer a fan favorite throughout the south-western states, Steele still went on to win the FWW Intercontinental Championship in a 20-man Royal Rumble less than a month later. Only the first of five that he would hold with the company. But he was not overly impressed by the quality of competition in Fantasy World Wrestling (FWW), and decided to seek out new challenges for himself by signing a contract with Supreme Mountain e-Wrestling (SMeW), a promotion based in the United States of America. Steele was not well liked by the American fans at first, but he eventually managed to impress them with his martial arts skills. But what really impressed them was his ability to stand up on his own two feet after his brutal loss to Dead Flesh in a match to become the Television Heavyweight Champion. But evenore it was a rough start he still was successful in not only eventually winning the SMeW Television Heavyweight Championship, and losing it once again to Dead Flesh, but he also went onto win four other belts with them. Not to mention holding the SMeW World Heavyweight Championship a record four times. He also during this time became the first person to win the SMeW Tag-Team championship belts by himself. But shortly after Michael lost the SMeW World Heavyweight Championship to Steve Austin, and Dead Flesh had already vacated his title a long time ago, the SMeW expanded it horizons by buying-out another American-based federation known as the PSeW. While changing it's name to the PSeW at the same time. Michael Steele would go on to defeat Underlord to become the first PSeW International Heavyweight Champion, a new title created by the merger of the two organizations.
Steele had become increasingly dissatisfied with FWW management towards the end of 1998, Steele decided to break his contract with them only weeks before it was announced that the FWW was shutting down it's doors for a little repairing and modifying. His now wife and manager, Jessica "Starbird" Steele, immediately saw an opportunity and signed him on with the Canadian based federation called Canadian Internet Wrestling Federation (CIWF)... one of the fastest-growing regional feds in the great white north. But in an unfortunate stroke of bad luck, the PSeW unexpectly closed its doors only weeks after Steele re-signed a four year deal with them... But his career still skyrocketed in the CIWF as he was able to defeat most of the competition put in front of him and had won a total of three belts with the CIWF.
Steele didn't know what he was going to do once the CIWF closed it's doors due to financial problems. He and his wife Jennifer were forced to do small time indy shows. It seemed that nobody wanted a American Hero figure in wrestling these days. The things that fans wanted wasn't the nice guy, they didn't care about anything but blood and a new hardcore style that seemed to formed in the east and made its way west. Steele was still doing good money wise from the money he had coming in from The Steele Corporation which produced the well known "Hooters Magazine". Months went by and Steele knew he needed something new in his life. He needed to find his path, so he left his expecting wife a hell of a lot of money and headed for the streets promising that he would return when he found his calling. He started hanging out with new people which in turn was a street gang called the Panthers. At first he was the joke of the gang. But it didn't take long for his fighting skills to force them to respect him.
Nicknamed The Shadow by his fellow gang members for his silent movement on unsuspecting couples. He quickly became a threat to all around him. The police wanted him bad so he hided out. Being a thug wasn't all that it turned out to be. He quickly found out that the streets were hard but they didn't allow him to legally injure people like he wanted to. He decided that he wanted to go back into the wrestling industry. But he wouldn't go without his wife. After months of work he was able to fix all the bad blood between his wife and the corporation he left behind. After lots of work he was able to find a wrestling corporation called the BEW. But they had closed down so he looked around the company's connections and found that a corporation called the EIWF was going to hire new wrestlers. He had a meeting with there executives to work out a contract but the company couldn't make the payment for his first check so he said to hell with the company and left the executives crying. Looking around he found another promising federation called the JWA. He sat down and looked at the contract, made a deal and the rest is history.
