I bought this car for $400. It was Charcoal Grey and had 86,000 miles on the 1.8 fuel injected OHC turbo engine. The tranny was an automatic with push button 4wd. It was in excellent shape, with onlt a spot of rust. The only thing bad was that the transmission leaked. This was the Car I bought do Deliver pizza for the winter. I pit new snow tires on the front and off roadies on the back. I carried a tow strap and jumper cables in the back, as well as a case of transmission fluid. I was driving through foot deep snow without a problem. I could clear the alleys by going over my tracks, and plow down snow piles left by the plow trucks. I pulled some 15 vehicles out of the snow over the course of 2 weeks, including a Chevy truck and a Camaro out if the alley behind Papa Johns. The driver in the truck couldnt believe what this little wagon could do, and he about shit his pants when he saw my tranny was leaking. It leaked about 3-4 quarts a night, but my tips easily paid for it. I had the car pit in the shop to fix the leak, estimated at about $300. Once I got it in the shop, they said the tranny was leaking because someone had it apart and didn't put it together right, and it would not fit together to seal the leak. There were standard bolts where there were supposed to me metrics, the cv axles had broken and missing pins, and the splines on the torque converter were messed up. They said I needed a new torque converter, and one was not available at the time. I ended up having to move, quit my job, and I lost the car. I had about $700 into it, which wasn’t too bad of a loss, compared to what the car would be worth if the transmission was fixed. |
