About Bananaswap:
Born out of a hobby, I started growing numerous banana species,
specialising predominatly in wild types (after all starting seeds is a
big part of the fun, right?) Then everything started really taking off, when
I managed to get seeds of a species, which at that time was impossible to get:
Musa Ingens. It is native to the highlands of Papua New Guinea, and is the
biggest banana plant in the world (10 - 15m height, and 2m circumference at the
base), and hence also the biggest herb in existence.
Offering
seeds of this plant for trading against seeds of other Musa species (or really
any other type of tropical plant) allowed me to drasticly increase my
collection, build up great contacts and make good friends.
I did not have any commercial interests in those seeds, but apart
from growing a few myself, I was quite happy trading them for other Musa, Palm
or Heliconia seeds. I am also interested in other tropical plants - especially
rare ones.
The future aim
is to source other Banana or Palm species, and to continue interacting
with other interested parties by trading seeds and having interesting
conversations.
