1978 - NORTH DOWN LEAGUE RALSTON CUP FINAL

Bangor Swifts played in their first and only final in the North Down League on 2 January 1978. The Swifts had a resonably smooth passage to the Ralston Cup Final, with comfortable vistories over West Winds United and bank of Ireland in the early rounds.

The semi-final saw a close 3-2 victory over Ards Blues II, whose 1st. XI actually defeated the Swifts the following week in the league.

A large Swifts support turned up on a cold butsunny day at Parkway in Comber. Unfortunately, the team did not do themselves justice in the final against Cregagh Y.C., who went on to win The League and Cup double that season.

The Swifts support on the touchline, with a calm Stewarty Melville taking stock of the situation.

Stewarty giving the team talk before the match. A lot of glum faces including a young Paul Walls.

The famous half-time team talk, after the players had received their oranges.
