Here is but a small tribute to the lads
who all have worn yellow and blue
For Characters played near and far, some I will recall for you
Can you remember the “Pit Pony” who always gave his all
Ex Chelsea player Uel who ran the wing and often forgot the ball
And Jimmy Bowler from yesteryear, a wonder
player ‘tis true
The ball seemed superglued to his boot, for he’d never pass
to you
Big Fran Rafferty has graced our Club, commencing on the outfield
of play
But injury forced him into nets, an “all round” player
one might say
On goalies, McKeown ‘s name springs to
mind, famed for his outstanding catches
Or was it for his feline friends that followed him to all the matches
Of course we all know Wallsy, a defender’s worst nightmare
by far
We ‘ye watched him skip past five defenders and lash it over
the bar
His brother was a pillar at the back, Bearded!
Big / Brave / perhaps a little slow
Summed up best by the Lower Ards men - “Hey Archie, you’re
nothing but a Dodo”
The Murphy Brothers cannot be forgot, Coim, Paul and Marty have
come and gone
Whose skills were just a joy to watch even if they were more often
off than on
Remember the names of Griffin and Fox, Browne,
Barr McKimm to name but a few
McGreevy, McCullough, Foster and Thompson have all worn the yellow
and blue
Tributes to Cromie, Doherty, Galloway and Melville an all weather
player dry or wet
His goal scoring exploits are legendary even if they were not always
in the opponents net
The Egan brothers deserve a mention for the
adversary’s goal was always in danger
From a thirty five yard thunder bolt from the boot of Mr. Bangor
The McAlorums have played their part throughout the last 25 years
When Ricky caught one on the volley, the opposing manager was in
tears
More recently Winkie McDonnell has become part
of the Swifts plan
At the speed of light he covers the pitch as if being chased by
a Mexican
Let’s not forget the McBriens and Stewarts and all the other
“has beens”
A round of applause for Vannucci and Tresidder for the work behind
the scenes
We can’t go without thanking the Badger,
a hard man blessed with skill and flair
The Swifts would no! be the same without him, even though he still
dyes his hair
An apology to all whose names don ‘t appear here, for each
one deserves a mention
A tribute to all those who have played, to forget you has not been
our intention
Now please raise your glasses, Ladies
and Gentlemen, be it soft drink, wine or beer
And drink a toast to all Swtfts past present and the future 25 years
