The first season in Division 2B saw
the Swifts make a disastrous start to the campaign when they lost
their first seven league matches on the trot. A revival in mid season
was followed by a poor finish to the season but enough points had
been gained to retain their 2B status. Whilst accepting part of
the blame for the situation, Archie Walls felt that an unsettled
team in early season, doubts about the team’s ability combined
with a lack of full fitness were other factors responsible for the
situation.
As it was felt that the strength of the squad was insufficient,
the Club took steps to improve the situation by applying for membership
of the Amateur League for the 2nd.Xl, reforming the 3rd.XI and adopting
St. Columbanus School pitch as the Home venue for the lst.XI.
