Season 1994/95 brought about the expected
stabilisation. Benefiting from coaching which went on throughout
the summer supervised by Archie, Michael Egan and Marty O’Neill,
and also from the acquisition of several new members, the by now
Under- 13 side finished their second season a very creditable 3rd.
position in the league. Four players were also considered worthy
to represent a league Select XI in various challenge matches.
1994/95 also witnessed the formation of an Under- 16 XI which undertook
a series of friendly matches in preparation for league membership
in 1995/95. Shades again of similarity with their Epworth Hall predecessors.
THE FINAL PIECE OF THE JIGSAW
The final piece of the jigsaw was the formation in the summer of
1995 of a new Under-12 XI which also joined the league. Thus the
Club fielded Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 teams in the South
Belfast Boys League in addition to the lst.XI and 2nd.XI in the
Northern Amateur League.
It became Club policy to continue to operate the juvenile section
on the above basis of three teams separated by two year age gaps.
The purpose of this extension of the Club’s player base was
two fold. Not only was it aimed at providing a supply of fresh talent
to the senior squad, but it was also intended as an indication,
to those within and without the Swifts, that the Club was serious
about it’s continued existence and development.
With such a deep pool of players, the Swifts fully intended to be
celebrating it’s 50th. Anniversary in twenty five years time.
