SYNOPSIS
Merlin Olsen, best known
for his roles in such "warm and wonderful" dramas as
Little
House on the Prairie
and Father Murphy,
starred in another one in 1988. Aaron
Miller was a strict, bearded Amish patriarch who uprooted his tight-knit family
from their cloistered environment in Pennsylvania and moved to California when his
eldest son died there. Noah Miller had forsaken Amish ways and, when he
perished in a surfing accident, he left behind a pregnant girlfriend (Susannah)
with a vineyard she couldn't maintain alone. So, unbidden, the Millers moved in to help.
Stories
revolved around the Millers' culture shock as they adjusted to modern California
ways, while trying to retain their deep-rooted moral values and peculiar style
of dress. Conservative Aaron always seemed to clash with free-spirited Susannah
and her sharp-tongued mother, Connie, who ran the local beauty salon. Underneath, of course, there
was a lot of love. Susannah's
teenaged brother Mickey had his own plan for bridging the culture gap, with eyes for Aaron's daughter, Roseanne.
