SYNOPSIS
The old-guys-in-drag gag was
revived in this 1980 sex farce. Henry
and Kip were two young studs working at a New York City advertising agency, Henry as a junior copywriter
(and aspiring novelist) and Kip as a junior
illustrator (and aspiring painter). They were also roommates, but one day
they found a wrecking ball in the bedroom - seems the building was being
demolished. Office receptionist Amy, who was smitten with Henry, came up with the
bright idea that they move into her
building, which just happened to be an all-girl residence - the Susan B. Anthony
Hotel. Henry and Kip liked the low rent
and being surrounded by beautiful women in various stages of undress, so in they
went, gussied up as Hildegarde and Buffy. Amy was the only one who knew their true identities, even though Henry and
Kip kept showing up at the hotel as themselves (passed off as Hildegarde's and Buffy's
brothers). Sonny and Isabelle were two sexpots at the hotel, and Lilly Sinclair
its fearsome manager. Ruth Dunbar was the idea-appropriating boss at the
office.
Eventually,
the boys revealed their ruse to the girls at the hotel,
but nobody else seemed to catch on. They also went into the commercial production
business with Amy, taking over the failing firm owned by Henry's uncle
Mort. Sonny pursued her career as a nurse, while being pursued by Kip,
and Isabelle took over as manager of the hotel, while waiting for her big
break as an actress.
NBC aired reruns
of Bosom Buddies during the summer of 1984.
