SYNOPSIS
Dick
Kallman, a promising young Broadway and Hollywood comic of the 1950's and
1960's who never quite made it to major stardom, was showcased in this
single-season campus comedy. He played Hank
Dearborn, a resourceful young man determined to get a college education despite his
lack of funds or family support (his parents had been killed in a car accident
when he was 15, leaving him to support his baby sister, Tina). Hank simply "dropped in" to classes at
Western State University, filling the seats of students he knew would be absent,
and wearing a variety of ingenious disguises.
To support himself and Tina, he
engaged in a number of moneymaking schemes,
including running a campus laundry service, a watch & shoe repair shop, a
dating agency, etc... He was always one step ahead
of Dr. Royal, the registrar, who was bent on tracking down the campus
phantom. Just about
everyone else was in on the secret, however, including Doris, Hank's girlfriend and Dr. Royal's daughter; Prof. McKillup; and Franny, Tina's baby-sitter. The track
coach, Ossie Weiss, after seeing Hank sprint to classes, wanted him to join the
track team.
