SYNOPSIS

Herbie, a Volkswagen Beetle with a mind of its own, was the star of this light-hearted comedy series.

Herbie had "adopted" its owner, Jim Douglas, and spent much of its time looking out for his welfare, including finding him an attractive young wife. Julie MacLane, a divorcée with three young children, was the chosen bride, discovered by Herbie and Jim when they thwarted a bank robbery in which she was being held hostage.

Despite the efforts of her former boyfriend, Randy Bigelow, to disrupt her new romance, Jim prevailed and the two were married in the April 7 episode. Jim ran a driving school with help from easy-going Bo Phillips, but his limited income from this venture forced him to also teach driver education at a local high school.

Based on the Love Bug movies produced by Walt Disney Productions from 1969 to 1980, with Dean Jones reprising the role he had played in two of them - The Love Bug (1969) and Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo (1977).
