SYNOPSIS

San Francisco Police Commissioner Stewart McMillan had a beautiful wife, Sally, who had a knack for getting both of them involved in criminal cases which she inadvertently stumbled upon. This mystery/comedy police series was patterned after the relationship between Nick and Nora Charles in The Thin Man movies and TV series of the 1940's and 50's.

Cast members included: Mac's aide, plodding but enthusiastic Sgt. Enright and Mildred was the McMillans' sharp-tongued, sarcastic maid.

McMillan And Wife was one of the 3 original rotating elements in the NBC Mystery Movie - the other two were Columbo and McCloud. Nancy Walker and Susan Saint James left the series at the end of the 1975-76 season - Nancy to persue her own series on ABC and Susan left in a contract dispute. The title was then changed to McMillan and cast changes were made. Sally was written out by having her die in a plane crash and Mac, now a widower, had a new housekeeper named Agatha, who happened to be Mildred's sister. With Sgt. Enright being promoted to Lieutenant, Mac acquired a new assistant named Sgt. DiMaggio and a new secretary named Maggie.
