SYNOPSIS

Located in Los Angeles, the Medical Center was an unnamed hospital complex that was part of a large university campus.

Dr. Paul Lochner, an experienced, professional, compassionate man, was the Chief of Staff. Dr. Joe Gannon was a young associate professor of surgery and close friend and colleague of Paul's.

At the start of the second season, Dr. Gannon took on the added responsibilities of director of the student health service. Several other doctors and nurses came and went in the cast. Miss Wilcox, the efficient head nurse, even achieved star billing in 1972!

The medical and personal stories of the doctors and their patients provided the drama in this series. In one episode, Paul's daughter (played by a very young Tyne Daly) showed up with a major illness and Joe had to perform the operation.

Gannon and Lochner were the epitamy of the youth vs. experience tension which seems to be a necessary element in every medical TV show. The elements worked here as Medical Center was the longest-running medical series in the history of prime-time TV - running for 7 years.
