SYNOPSIS
The New Show offered an hour of offbeat comedy sketches by a cast of regulars and guest stars. The sketches were often topical, as in the regular "Weekend Tonight" spoof newscast and in film clips of world leaders with new dialogue dubbed in.
Other skits were usually geared towards teens with one show opening at the "Restaurant of Revulsion," where a waiter (guest star Raul Julia) unveiled for his customers the Catch of the Day, "Tete du jour" - a severed head on a platter that exclaimed, "(with a long groan)... it's The New Show!"
A musical spot each week featured rock acts like the Pretenders and Rick James. The list of guest stars included: Candice Bergen, John Candy and Catherine O'Hara.
The New Show was produced by Lorne Michaels, who created Saturday Night Live, but it failed to capture an audience and was soon canceled.
