SYNOPSIS

This sitcom revolved around cute, 7-year-old Punky Brewster who lived in Chicago. She managed to face all of her problems with a positive outlook on life.

Abandoned by her parents, Punky and her adorable puppy "Brandon" (named after NBC Exec - Brandon Tartikoff) made themselves a home in an empty apartment, where they were soon discovered by bachelor building manager, Henry Warnimont. He was about to turn them in when, he fell head-over-heels in love with the little girl - and her puppy! He somehow managed to convince the skeptical authorities to let Punky stay with him for a while.

Stories involved their adjustments to each other, the everyday problem's of a little girl, and Henry's work as a photographer. Cast member included: Eddie, the building maintenance man; Cherie, Punky's best friend; Margaux, her stuck-up classmate at school; Allen, another of Punky's friends, and Mrs. Morton, her teacher. In the 1985-1986 season, Punky got a new teacher named Mike Fulton.

According to rumors published when the series was first announced, there really was a Punky Brewster. As a child, NBC programming head Brandon Tartikoff had a crush on a tomboyish older girl by that name. Years later, he nicknamed his own first child Punky. NBC's lawyers tracked down the real Punky Brewster and got permission to use her name. She was married to a lawyer in Connecticut, received a royalty for the use of her name, and appeared in a cameo role as one of the teachers at Punky's school!

NBC aired an animated version of this show called It's Punky Brewster, on Saturday mornings from September 1985 - September 1987 and from October 1988 - September 1989.
