SYNOPSIS

Based on the book Supercarrier by George C. Wilson, this Sunday action show featured handsome young fighter pilots straight out of the hit movie Top Gun - "Sierra" "Anzac" and "Beebee" (the only woman pilot who was better than the men but couldn't get sea duty because of her gender). In command of the pilots was Capt. Coleman, a black officer on his first big assignment - and worried about it.

Cast members included: Capt. Madigan, the ship's commander; Cruz, an honest young military policeman who wanted to become a boxer; Rosie, a giggly medical assistant and Willoughby, the expert young radarman.

The real star of the show was the gigantic aircraft carrier - the U.S.S. Georgetown. At 17 stories tall and with the ability to hold 5,630 people, the Navy liked to call it "a floating city." There were many shots of jets being catapulted from its huge flight deck and its towering bow lurking over some smaller vessell nearby. It was the pride of San Miguel Naval Base, where off-duty personnel were welcomed by warm beds and by Billie's Bar, run by salty old Billie Costello.

At first, the Navy cooperated fully with the producers - providing technical assistance, loaning them aircraft and allowing them to film on the real-life U.S.S. Kennedy. But, upset by such non-regulation stories as an onboard love scene (which never made it on the air), hot-shot pilots crashing $20 million jets and the discovery of cocaine on board, the Navy withdrew its support.
