George Takei! Biography

George Takei was born in Los Angeles, California and spent most of his childhood in an internment camp for Japanese Americans during WW II. He received his B.A. and M.A. in Theatre at UCLA. He made his live television debut in Playhouse 90 and his film debut in Ice Palace, starring Richard Burton. George has more than 100 television and nearly 20 feature credits, while his theatrical credits include Undertow, and The Wash, in both New York and L.A. He has voiced numerous Star Trek audio recordings, as well as the animated series The Simpsons, and received a Grammy nomination in 1988 in the "Best Spoken Word Recording" category.

George has been active in many community projects, including: more than a decade on the Board of Directors of the Southern California Rapid Transit Distric. He is a Vice President of Human Resources for the American Public Transit Association, President of the Friends of Little Tokyo Arts and serving on the board of the Japanese American National Museum. He has also found time to write as the editor/columnist of the monthly publication Transpacific, and has penned a Star Trek novel as well as his autography, To the Stars.
