Babinette Barbette

Around 1977, I traveled from Louisiana to visit Libby Babin of Babinette Kennel located in the Chicago suburb of Downers Grove.  I saw several really nice Babinette Shelties, but I was very taken by Barbette's outstanding movement and structure.  She was small, about 14" at the shoulder, and compact, with a dark sable coat,  white blaze, small dark eyes, and a perfect tail set.  I fell in love with her during my visit and knew that I just had to have her! Libby was outspoken about the importance of soundness and structure and had a major and lasting influence on me.  Thanks to Libby, Bare Cove started with a great foundation...Barbette.  Before she came to live here, Barbette was shown by Libby to Winners Bitch at the Milwaukee SS Specialty and acquired 14 points, both majors.  Unfortunately, Barbette was already 5 years old and later lost a front tooth,  The missing tooth, advancing age, and her so-so showmanship would later prevent her from getting that last point.

But Babinette contributed much to Bare Cove Shelties, producing two champions for me.  She was bred to the exquisite Ch. Kismet's Conquistador ROM (Jay) the first time, resulting in my tricolor bitch, Ch. Bare Cove Bangerette (BeBe) who carries forth for Barbette.  Her second breeding was to the very sound Jay son, Ch. Kismet's Status Quo.  My Ch. Bare Cove's Bay Statesman (Teddy) who finished before he was 2 years old, came from that breeding, but unfortunately, he does not carry on.
