Amontillado | |||||
Searchriders had never been Amontillado's fear until they'd all started wanting her to stand. In fact, she was almost sure that she'd wanted to stand until a Searchrider from Tarizal Weyr came and asked her to stand on their sands. And now she was so afraid of standing that she got tense whenever someone mentioned dragons. She was a defiant child, that was for sure. Maybe that was part of why she didn't like confrontation, because she knew that she would start acting defiant and do something that she might regret later. Ohmsford was the first out the door. He always was. He'd wanted to be Searched ever since the Tarizal incident, and Amontillado felt sorry for him whenever a Searchrider came, and requested that she stand on their sands. It had to get depressing after a while, but he still kept at it. She was last out the door, just behind Erilam. She'd been rather reluctant about meeting Searchriders, too, half-hoping that they would choose it, but half-dreading it, as well. Or, atleast, that was what it looked like to Amontillado. In the low light, the dragon looked as though it had a spattering of white on its wings, and suddenly Amontillado realized that it actually did have the white! It was a stunning dragon, that was for sure. "Hello," the rider said, walking up to them, her blue and green firelizards swooping about her head. "My name is Tarymi, and this lovely dragon is my frosted green Zironath. We ride on Search for Mountain's Note Weyr. There is a rapidly-hardening clutch on the Sands, and we need Candidates." Her eyes became unfocused for a moment, and Amontillado knew that the rider was speaking to her dragon. "Zironath says that there's one boy and one girl here that might make good Candidates, but we will only take the girl for now. Amontillado, would you like to come to Mountain's Note with us?" Amontillado froze. This was the first time that the rider had asked her directly; most of the time a flit brought a letter or something of the sort. "We need lots more Candidates," Tarymi said pleadingly. "There have not been enough, and the queen Karenenth is afraid that there will not be enough Candidates, and she has become very distraught." She looked at Amontillado, demanding the girl's attention. "Please." The young woman took a deep breath. "Tarymi, I would be delighted to come with you to Mountain's Note Weyr. But who was the boy?" She looked hopefully at Ohmsford, and he smiled back at her. "You obviously already know," Tarymi laughed. "Yes, we may be returning for Ohmsford, definately for the next clutch, but I'm not sure about this first one. When will you be ready to leave?" Amontillado turned to look at her parents, both of whom were astounded, though neither of them less so that Erilam. "As soon as I can," she said proudly, smiling at the greenrider and turning back to consult with her parents about when she could leave. Hatching! Amontillado is a Candidate at Mountain's Note Weyr |
