Dhierdan
Dhierdan held his breath as he stepped into the dark cavern that reeked of every smell that you can possibly hate, every smell that you normally want to pinch your nose and run back away as quickly as you can.  But no, he couldn't turn away.

And it wasn't just about showing up Coll, either.  It was because this dragonet needed help, and Dhierdan, for all of his bravado, didn't want to see Scaroth in pain.

What happened next he couldn't remember quite well; he only knew that it concerned Scaroth getting mad at him and telling him to go away.  Dhierdan slunk out of the cavern, S'ron whispering to him that he could easily stand for the next clutch.  He nodded, watching as Coll went inside.

Dhierdan felt the urge to say something rude to Coll about how he shouldn't even try, but held it back.  Scaroth needed someone who could take care of him.  Coll and Scaroth conversed for a while, until it was obvious to Dhierdan and S'ron that Scaroth had accepted Coll as his new rider.

Jealous and also full of sorrow, Dhierdan turned away to the Hatching Sands, hoping to find some comfort in the eggs.
I had a wonderful time at Morning Star
today.  I promise to you that the silver
Scaroth was about to pick me over Coll,
but the stupid boy went and started making alot of noises to attract Scaroth's
attention.
After that, I got a bit upset and went to go look at the eggs.  Well, Scaroth was obviously good for me, but Coll distracted him.  So that means that I have a good chance of standing, right?  And Impressing.  I wonder what I'll walk away with; Giyath seems to really like me.

There was a very pretty girl there, too; her name is Harasel.  I think that she likes me, as well, but she's got a very annoying boy who followed her around everywhere.  I think that she hates him, though.
The golden dragoness snarled sharply as Dhierdan walked onto the sands, her eyes turnning a deep red.  "You'd be Dhierdan, then?" a voice asked, and he turned quickly to see the person who had to be the gold's lifemate.  She was rather beautiful, actually.  "Oh, Giyath, calm down, he's just going to be a Candidate."

The gold's red eyes slowly swirled into purple with a hint of orange, which still showed concern.  "You can touch them if you like," Lathoria said, gesturing to one of the eggs.  "I think that the rest of the Candidates are about to come in..."

Dhierdan turned around, watching as a large number of girls with only one boy walked onto the Sands, the Weyrlingmaster with them.  Immediately, one girl caught his eye.  She was about 16, he guessed, three Turns younger than he was.  He brushed his brown hair out of his eyes, hoping to catch her attention.

She was standing rather close to the only other male Candidate, and they were talking to each other.  He placed one arm around her shoulders, and Dhierdan glared at him.  He'd have to find out the girl's name later; she was the prettiest of them all, with black hair and fair skin, with eyes that were black...  No, he took it back, they were a deep brown.  Very dark and beautiful.

After Lathoria had talked to the weyrlingmaster about him standing, he began to move around the eggs, stroking them occasionally.  He never ceased to notice that whenever he got too close to a large egg, Giyath rumbled, and whenever he got too close to the beautiful girl, she would back away rather quickly.

But that was okay.  It would all change when the eggs hatched.
