It was dark outside whenever Kessa heard the shouts from the Weyrlingmaster to get up and get the white robes on...  She didn't even bother to change out of her sleeping shift, but simply put the white robe over it, and then put the sandals on while she tried to run sleepily to the Hatching Sands.  It didn't work- she stumbled over the too-long robe, and muttered a thanks to one of the male Candidates that helped her up.

Kessa was the last to arrive on the sands, and by then she noted a male...  Romulus was his name, leading off a bronze.  A bronze...  That should mean that the hatching would be a good one.

A blue and green egg hatched from their eggs, and Kessa held her breath as the green stumbled past her.  But no, it turned to Allynara.  The blue, light-hued, went to Darien.

The girl who had been closest to the green, Juno, watched in amazement as the queen egg began to rock back and forth.  Kessa knew that it was not meant for her, and was right.  The queen chose Juno for her lifemate.

More assorted blues, browns, and greens fell out of their eggs.  That left Kessa and three males.  A bronze dragonet fell from his egg, and Kessa knew that it couldn't be meant for her. The bronze knew who he wanted, and that was Richar.  A smile crossed Kessa's lips.  A good match.

Three eggs were left, and Kessa found herself getting antsy.  The smallest egg was rocking, and she could hear bettors putting marks up for what color that the egg would be.  Most said green, but in a split second, Kessa was the first to see that they were all wrong.

Almost no one noticed the tiny white tail poking through the hard eggshell except herself and the two other Candidates, but Kessa felt proud to note that she saw the white tail before the other Candidates.  Hah!  It would show them that just because she was young it didn't mean that she was worthless.

There had only been one other white ever at Dragon Soul, and Kessa felt the blood beginning to pound in her veins. Even though she was pretty sure that she wouldn't Impress this wonderful white, she could tell her parents that she had seen the second white ever at Dragon Soul hatch.  But somehow she couldn't rip her eyes away from the un-hatched dragonet.

With a creeling, the white dragonet practically burst from its shell.  Kessa felt her breath catch in her throat, but also felt a sigh escape.  The entire stands fell silent as the white dantily picked itself up from the eggshell.

Seemingly unaware of the fuss that it was causing, the white didn't even hesitate  in its picking of a rider...

Kessa, I am Jiasath, and I am yours! The white said as she gently nudged Kessa's leg with her head.

"And I am yours," Kessa breathed.
