You pick up the journal, and flip open the tanned-hide cover.  Ogdrol leans back comfortably as you begin to read.

I've had this journal forever, but I never really wrote in it, although now I feel that I must.  You see, today I was Searched!  A bluerider came to the weavercraft hall, on Search for Dawn Sister's Weyr.  He chose me!  At about that same time, another bluerider appeared for a differant weyr, and of course Odgro was picked.  Why does he always have to do as well or as better than I?  He will stop at nothing to better me, or so it seems.  The worst part is that I am in charge of my "group," while he is left out, but somehow he manages to get ahead of me in every way possible.  I am supposed to be the leader, not him.  I did manage to Impress a blue firelizard, but, who would of guessed, he got himself a brown.  Well, my blue flit, Ylaay, is hungry and I have to feed him.

Restday at last!  I managed to get over to the fact that the hatching hasn't happened yet, and enjoy myself.

Odgro is driving me insane, for, as a little brother, that's what he does best.  Just because he's a year younger than me, was Apprenticed later, and is already a Senior Apprentice shouldn't mean anything.  I just thank the Golden Faranth that he got Searched for a differant weyr, because if we both Impressed at the same weyr, I know that he'd get a bronze and I a blue.  Seriously, though, he does drive me insane.  He's got a brown firelizard, one up on me, and I cannot stand it when he uses the brown to send me messages.  I think that he's trying to subtly brag, but his letters reveal nothing about what's happening where he is.  Ylaay has lost the letters many times, and according to Odgro, delievered them a day or more late at times.  His brown is perfect in every way, for it delivers quickly, and never fails to wait for a reply.  It just makes me so sick!

I have not written in forever, but that's because I have had no time!  I am writing this to let you know that I'm still alive, and will be writing more soon!

The hatching was today!  Today!  And I Impressed the loveliest blue dragon that you've ever seen in your entire lifetime.  His name is Kastubath!  He was tangled up with this brown during the hatching, but eventually they were seperated.  He didn't want any of those other boys like I thought he would, he wanted me!  ME!  Kastubath is now asleep, and boy can he eat.  Even more than Ylaay, although I doubt that he will have fun trying to rip my fingers off when he is happy.  Even just having Kastubath for a few candlemarks shows me that I am going to leade a very, very diffrerant life now.  There is no thinking space for yourself, except when your dragonet is asleep, like now.  Otherwise, you end up having to conceal all of your thoughts about anything that you don't want your dragonet to know.  For example, I could readily fault Kastubath for not being a brown or a bronze while he's asleep, but if I get him when he's awake, the rest of the dragons freak out, and I'm left with a very upset dragonet and a horribly angry weyrlingmaster.  Well, he is waking up again and already itches!  I'll write more tomorrow!
