Tuneal

Tuneal sat anxiously in the stands as Lecirnor and two other girls walked out onto the sands, surrounding the average-sized rocking egg.  And one of them would get it.  He hoped deeply that it would be Lecirnor, for he'd never really thought much of anyone other than her, and knew that Impressing would make her happy beyone belief.

The egg shuddered once, twice, and then hairline cracks spread all over it.  With a cry, the dragonet inside burst out, and everyone could see it as a true purple, not an amethyst.  The rarest of all dragon colors, and found, for the most part, only at Ocean Side.  This was the first one ever in the history of the Weyr.

The purple tried to skip, but tripped over her own feet.  She picked herself up from the sands, and then circled the trio of girls, attempting to bugle.  Instead, there was a whistling of air that came from the dragonet's mouth, which eventually turned into a whistle.

The notes grew higher and higher, and for a moment, Tuneal thought that he would clap his ears over his head so that he didn't have to listen to the dragonet any more.  Suddenly, it broke off, and he watched as Lecirnor shouted, "Amisserath!"

A wide smile spread over Tuneal's face, and he ran a hand through his dark brown hair.  Even better than Karikav's Impression of his bronze Vanteth.  Because Karikav was his brother and Lecirnor was, well, Lecirnor.

The two other girls, Arkaday and Frida, turned to leave, but Tuneal watched in amazement as the Weyrleader called for them to come back.  Two eggs were revealed by the sire, Salvath, and they split almost at the same time, revealing two tiny whites.

Each girl called out their new dragonet's name, and Tuneal smiled.  He was glad that the other two had Impressed, but was even happier that Lecirnor had Impressed the purple.  He knew that she hadn't expected to Impress anything at all, perhaps, at best, a green in another clutch.  But she would be so proud of Ammisserath.

He hurried down to speak to her, his brown firelizard fluttering down on his shoulder to send him a mental image of Ev, Lecirnor, and Amisserath.  "Yup, Klah, we're going to go and see them all right now."  The brown firelizard had taken quite a liking to both Lecirnor and her white firelizard Ev, which made Tuneal happy.  If Ev did rise to mate, he was privately hoping that Klah would chasea, and, better yet, win...

But Amisserath would rise, and Tuneal knew that he had little or no chance of Impressing a dragon, let alone one that Amisserat would consider worthy of her.  A shadow was probably the only thing that the amazingly rare female would consider, perhaps a turquoise.  And Tuneal was pretty sure that he would Impress, at best, a blue.  If he even did Impress.

"Well, Klah, come on, let's go," He said, following the large crowd of spectators, who were all chatting amongst themselves.
