Alhajath's Flight Back V'kam, now a full five Turns older than when he had Impressed Brabazoth at fourteen Turns, found himself still given to childish anger and jealousy. It wasn't so much that G'rom's blue Darsuth had caught Yila's green Saporth, it was simply that the arrogant bluerider didn't think twice about rubbing it in his face, and it had been several sevendays now. V'kam had never gotten along with G'rom. Welasia looked up the old Kiranor Records, which was Tarizal's mother Weyr, destroyed several passes ago, and it turned out that G'rom was a distant relative of V'kam. That made it even worse. Darsuth doesn't think anything about rubbing it in,either. I'm the biggest brown at Tarizal! Brabazoth said angrily. Coming down to the Weyrlake, which was where Brabazoth was bathing, V'kam sighed as he looked up at the green Saporth sunning on her ledge. He'd never really loved Yila, if you wanted to put it that way. They'd been good friends, and he had been hoping that Brabazoth would catch Saporth more to prove to everyone that his brown was good forsomething. Brabazoth and V'kam had botched their Wingsecond jobs, and as a result Z'mar and his green Resareth had been injured. V'kam cursed Welasia- she should of known better than to put a fresh Weyrling in a Wingsecond position. "Baz,I think that the reason you might be the biggest brown at Tarizal is because Mailstra's Stonith is tiny, J'kin's brown Dharth is still a young brown, and B'nil's Gevath is also pretty small." V'kam chuckled. I am still the biggest! Brabazoth insited. And Darsuth thinks that he's bigger and better than me. I want to get away from him. A childish smile crossed over V'kam's face. "Weyr-hopping?" He asked mischeviously, looking up at Brabazoth. Weyr-hopping. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* "Andromeda Weyr," V'kam said as he slid off of Brabazoth's back, looking around at the new surroundings. "So, how many days do we stay here? One? Two? A few candlemarks?" As long as it takes that beautiful white to rise! Brabazoth said, looking over at Andromeda's Weyrlake, where a white dragon was bathing in the sapphire-colored waters. She did look rather proddy... Who cares about proddy? Brabazoth asked. She's a beautiful specimin of a white! Why did I even chase in Saporth's flight? "Because Saporth wanted you to, and so did Yila." V'kam looked around for the rider of the white. "Who's her rider?" Brabazoth flashed his rider a mental image of Dalez, and for a moment V'kam was as eager as Brabazoth about his brown chasing in this flight. Something on the white's neck caught his eye. "What's that?" He asked the brown, pointing to what appeared to be a golden chain with a jewel on it that was placed on the white's neck. "And what's the white's name and her rider's name, anyways?" Dalez and Alhajath, V'kam heard Brabazoth give the draconic equivalent of a sigh. And that IS a jewel. A jewel on a chain for a jewel of a dragon! V'kam didn't have to bite back a chuckle, but instead simply gasped. Alhajath had, with a roar, practically lept from the crystal waters, and winged her way quickly over to the feeding grounds. She pounced on a wherry, the bones of the bird crunching underneat the white's powerful jaws. Brabazoth followed afterwards, and V'kam bolted from his position near the Weyrhall to the Feeding Grounds, and caught a glimpse of the young woman who had to be Dalzes. "BLOOD IT, ALHAJATH! BY FARANTH, BLOOD!" The white snarled, and with a slash, began to drink the blood from the carcass. The crimson blood on Brabazoth's klah-colored hide didn't contrast as sharply as the blood on Alhajath's shimmering white hide... And suddenly she sprang into the air, the males following after her, the white hide easily recognizable amongst the mass of blue and brown that surged after her. V'kam lost sight of Brabazoth in the fray, but suddenly he found himself looking through his dragon's eyes at the white jewel of a dragon as she dove and swerved away from her suitors. |
