Guildo Horn
At the early age of 4, Guildo Horn's music career began in the Trier Chamber Choir directed by Manfred May. He sang in various ensembles, including the youth choir of Rhineland-Palatinate state.

From 1975, he played drums in his first band; he signed his first production contract as a band musician in 1983, and tasted the studio air for the first time in Cream Studios in Frankfurt. In 1990, Guildo and his former band "Eve and the Handymen" won the endowed prize for rock music for the Trier/Rhineland-Palatinate region. At the same time, he studied at Trier University, after which he worked as a qualified educator and music therapist for mentally handicapped and seriously handicapped adults.

Then, in 1991, he made his breakthrough with the legendary "Kreuzzug der Zärtlichkeit" (Crusade of Tenderness), which would later take him all the way to the upper echelons of the entertainment industry. In Cologne's famed rock and indie club "Luxor", Guildo played host to his orthopaedic show, which he lovingly christened "Horndienst" (Horn service). For two years he played in front of packed houses, before the crusade took him and his band, the Orthopaedic Stockings, through concert halls all around Germany and into neighbouring countries.

With more than 1,000 concerts in ten years, Horn has so far played to around 1.6 million people. In 1998, the music station VIVA awarded him the "VIVA Comet" award for "Best Live Act".

Helped by the single largest telephone campaign in German history, Guildo Horn was chosen to represent Germany at the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest in Birmingham. According to official figures, up to 500 million viewers in 33 countries saw his spectacular performance, which gave a new lease of life to the traditional contest throughout Europe. Horn finished 7th in Birmingham, his ESC song "Guildo hat Euch lieb!" climbed as high as number 4 on the German charts, and the accompanying album "Danke!" reached number 3 and received a gold disc. The National Society for Nature Conservation nominated him for their "Bird of the Year" prize. To date, Guildo has added the Bambi, the Echo, the "Goldener Stimmgabel" and the RSH Gold Award to his VIVA Comet prize.

With total sales of 750,000 so far, Guildo Horn can be considered as one of the most successful current German artists.

In summer 2000, Guildo Horn won praise for his first musical, where he played the role of the Wizard of Oz. He fulfilled another dream in July 2001, playing Styx in a production of Orpheus in the Underworld at the Antikenfestspiele festival alongside Elke Sommer, Gitte Haenning and René Kollo. The incredible success of the operetta - all performances were sold out within just a few days - led to it being revived in July 2002 for another run.

As a representative of the student financial assistance scheme, Guildo Horn is often on the road promoting the work of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

His fifth album, "Der König der Möwen", was released in May 2002. This will also be the name of his German concert hall tour at the end of this year.
