At long last we have a winner of "You're a Star". Mickey Harte will go on to represent Ireland with a song called "We've Got The World Tonight" which in my opinion is by far the best song so far. We should maybe cancel eurovision this year because, well, what can I say, this is no doubt going to win. An absolute fantastic song

Just a little update on the goings on at 'You're a Star. Today another programme of 'You're a Star' aired. The person who had to leave the programme today was Johanne Fahy who I feel did not give her very best performance on the night. The twins live to survive another day but only just coming in second to last. The first placed singer for the second week on the trot was Simon Casey who is beginning to be the favourite to win and be the lead singer for Ireland in this years Eurovision Song Contest. The singers left in the running for the honour of lead singer in Riga are:

Simon Casey
Sarah Brophy
Susan McFadden
Lisa Bresnan
Mickey Harte
Brian Ormond
Michael Leonard
Shauna & Caiomhe McElhinney

Catroina Mac Ginty is the first person to be kicked out of the 2nd stage of You're a Star. She sang 'Let it Be' which was originally a beetles hit but the song just did not suit her voice. Catroina was one of the 3 wildcards that were chosen out of all the previous heats of Phase 1.

The final winner of round 1 is 23 year old Simon Casey. He performed "Just When I Needed You Most" which was originally sung by Randy Von Warner. Simon got through to the final twenty of last years Irish Popstars and just missed out on going one step further to the "Six" band. His first public singing role was in a Christmas School play and since then he has wanted more and more. Simon makes up the last contestant of the You're A Star grand finale.

Of the losers from each group in the heats 3 wild cards will be chosen to make the complete line up for the final round of You're a Star. The three selections will be made on January 5th. As soon as the 3 wild cards are known we'll have the information here FIRST.

Joanne Fahy is the 8th finalist of You're a Star. She only just won tonights vote with 17.4% of the final votes cast. 1% more than the second placed contestant. Joanne performed 'Summer Fly' originally sung by Maura O'Connell.

Joanne first peformed when she was 6 years old playing the evil queen Snow White. She starred in various musicals including Calamity Jane, Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspel.

Mickey Harte is the 7th finalist of You're a Star. He won his round singing 'I'll Be Your Baby' by Bob Dylan.

Mickey is 29,from Lifford, County Donegal. He is a full time singer/songwriter and has been performing i pubs since he was 15. He has actually recorded a five track EP called 'Sometimes Right Sometimes Wrong' which is being released in January.

This weeks winner of heat six is Susan McGowan from Athlone in County Westmeath. Susan sang 'Bridge over troubled water' which is yet again ANOTHER ballad that has won the heats. I feel that Ireland are going to have yet another ballad in 2003.

Susan has been singing since a very early age and her interest in music grew from her Aunt Trisha when she started bringing Susan to the folk group. She made her first public performance at the young age of 8 when she sang christmas carols in a cathedral on christmas eve. Susan also took part in Irish Popstars last year where she made the final 12.

There is not one winner of vote 5 but two this week. Shauna & Caoimhe McElhinney are 16 years old and from County Cork. They performed "Tell Him" which was originally sung by Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand. The twins both live at home with their mum and dad and two younger sisters Aoibhne and Aileesha. Both the twins are now in their fifth year at Glanmire Community College. The twins first auditioned for 'You're A Star' in Cork where they sang seperately and failed to impress the judges. After their first dissapointment they decided to try to have a go at the auditions again as a pair. The judges were stunned by their complimenting voices and their good looks.
Sarah Brophy is the 4th finalist of You're A Star. She did a great performance of 'Fields Of Gold' by Sting and earned herself 126 points.
The 3rd finalist of You're A Star has been chosen. Catherine Moore has won Heat three of the reality show. Catherine is from County Meath and has been interested in performing for some years now. Keep uptodate with all the goings on at the You're A Star website.
Michael Leonard has become the 2nd finalist of You're A Star 2003. He is 22 years old and comes from County Fermanagh in the heart of Ireland. He comes from a very big family including three brothers and three sisters. His interest in music stems from a very spiritual event in his life. He heard Don McLean's 'American Pie' floating over the airwaves in a McDonalds restaurant. He fell in love with the song that his career change was about to happen. Keep uptodate with all the goings on at the You're A Star website.
Tonight Avi Jegbefume became the first finalist in Ireland’s search for a Eurovision entrant in 2003. Avi is a 19 year old black girl from Tallaght (a rather rough Dublin suburb) who works in a clothes shop in Dublin’s Henry Street. She’s a bit like a mix of Lauryn Hill and Samantha Mumba, and an excellent choice. Keep uptodate with all the goings on at the You're A Star website.
