Johnny Logan
Johnny Logan was born in Frankston near Melbourne, Australia May 13, 1954. He was given the name Seán Patrick Michael Sherrard. His father, the famous Patrick O'Hagan, was an Irish tenor who managed to perform no less than three times at The White House in front of John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon respectively.

The family moved to Ireland when Johnny Logan was three years old. He started singing at the age of nine and by the time he was thirteen he had learned to play the guitar and was writing songs. He accompanied his father on tours in Australia and New Zealand as an assistant and dresser as his father suffered from a disease that prevented him from lifting his arms above his chest.

Johnny Logan has no doubt about his choice of profession goes all the way back to these tours where he and his father were killing time by singing together in the dressing-rooms of the great concert halls. Johnny Logan has been singing professionally since the age of fourteen.

One of his earliest musical influences were The Dubliners, an immensely popular Irish traditional band, who often visited his childhood home in the Dublin suburb of Howth.

1976

Johnny Logan played the male title role as Adam in "Adam & Eve" a rock musical by Alan Dee. "Adam & Eve" opened Tuesday September 28, 1976 and played for two weeks in State Cinema, Phibsboro. Annie Kavanagh played the role of Eve and Colm Wilkinson played the role of The Devil.

1977

Johnny Logan played Joseph in "Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" by Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber.

1979

Released the album "In London". Participated in the Irish National Song Contest 1979 with the song "Angie". Readers of the Connaught Telegraph in Ireland voted Johnny Logan as "Best New Male Artist".

1980

Released the albums "Johnny Logan", "Same", "The Johnny Logan Album" and "What's Another Year". Won the Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland as a singer with "What’s Another Year" composed by Shay Healy. The Eurovision Song Contest was held April 19, 1980 in The Hague. At the time, many people assumed that Johnny Logan was Irish, but in fact he was born in Frankston near Melbourne, Australia and he first became Irish after the Eurovision Song Contest. "What’s Another Year" quickly shot to number 1 in the UK chart and sold three million copies. Johnny Logan played Joseph in "Rock Nativity" by David Wood. Music by Tony Hatch & Jackie Trent. "Rock Nativity" was recorded on December 24, 1980 in Cork Opera House, Ireland and televised by RTE.

1984

Came second in the Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland as a composer with "Terminal 3" sung by Linda Martin. The Eurovision Song Contest was held May 5, 1984 in Luxembourg.

1985

Released the album "Straight From The Heart". Recorded a charity single “You'll Never Walk Alone” in aid of the Bradford City Disaster Fund. “You'll Never Walk Alone” was recorded May 20, 1985 by a huge group of artists calling themselves "The Crowd" (Paul McCartney, Gerry Marsden, Smokie, Kiki Dee, Johnny Logan and many others). On May 11, 1985 a football stand caught fire and killed 55 people and injured some 200. Participated in the Irish National Song Contest 1985 as a composer with "Hearts" sung by Mike Sherrard. Johnny Logan wrote the song "Hold Me Now" which later won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1987.

1986

Participated in the Irish National Song Contest 1986 as a composer with "If I could change your mind" sung by Linda Martin.

1987

Released the album "Hold Me Now". Won the Eurovision Song Contest for the 2nd time (no-one else had ever won it twice as a performer) for Ireland as a singer and composer with "Hold Me Now". The Eurovision Song Contest was held May 9, 1987 in Brussels. "Hold me now" rose to number 2 in the UK chart and the single sold six million copies. Johnny Logan appeared in the Royal Variety Performance for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip at the London Palladium.

1988

Recorded the duet "Du Allein" from the musical "Starlight Express" with the German megastar Ute Lemper.

1989 Released the album "What's Another Year". Released the album "Mention My Name" with the musicians from Level 42, Mike & The Mechanics, Wings and David Bowie’s band. Christopher Neil produced the album.

1990

Released the album "Love Songs" from K-Tel (Ireland) Ltd. Released the album "What's Another Year – Erfolge". Recorded in Nashville, Tennessee a country version of "Miss You Nights" with Elvis Presley’s backing band The Jordanaires. Johnny Logan was co-writing and singing the theme song "Angels Don’t Hide" for the German television show "Blue Blood".

1991

Participated in the Irish National Song Contest 1991 as a composer with "When do I get over you?" sung by Mike Sherrard. Johnny Logan were hosting his own television series "Johnny Logan and Friends" on BBC.

1992

Released the album "Endless Emotion" produced by Jürgen Fritz and Ralf-René Maué in Germany. Johnny Logan’s native country Ireland selected the song "Long Lie The Rivers" as their single release from the album and the song was associated with the holiday St. Patrick’s Day. Won the Eurovision Song Contest for the 3rd time for Ireland as a composer with "Why Me" sung by Linda Martin. The Eurovision Song Contest was held May 9, 1992 in Malmö. Johnny Logan played Charlie Chaplin’s brother Sydney Chaplin in "The Little Tramp - The Musical". The musical was based on the life of Charlie Chaplin and David Pomeranz wrote all the music and lyrics. Johnny Logan sang the song "Heaven" which also was released on the album "The Little Tramp - The Musical" produced by David Pomeranz & Mark Stevens.

1993

Johnny Logan toured Norway in a concert version of the opera musical "Which Witch" where he played the leading role of Catholic Bishop Daniel. Most of the performances were held at suitable outdoor places such as historical buildings and sites, culminating in two concerts underneath the giant Holmenkollen ski slope in Oslo, which attracted more than 20.000 people. Johnny Logan recorded "Celebrate And Win" the official song for the Track-and-field Athletics Championship 1993.

1994

Released the album "Living For Loving" produced by Roberto Danova in England. Johnny Logan performed at the Vatican Christmas concert for the Pope John Paul II with other well-known artist such as José Feliciano, Randy Crawford and Andrea Bocelli. Johnny Logan played himself in the German television show "Schwartz greift ein" he also recorded the songs "Who Will Bring Her Flowers" and the title song from the television show "I'm No Hero". Johnny Logan was co-writing and singing the theme song for the movie "White Magic".

1996

Released the album "Reach Out" produced by Gary Stevenson. Released the album "The Best Of Johnny Logan" from Sony Music Entertainment (UK) Ltd. Released the album "I'm No Hero". Recorded the duet "Reunited" with Dara Rolins. Recorded "Born To Love You" from The Phantom Of The Opera On Ice.

1997

Released the album "Reach Out (new version)" produced by Gary Stevenson. Released the album "Living For Loving". On April 16th, 1997 Johnny Logan left his handprints in concrete on the “Walk of Fame” in Rotterdam. The largest Star Boulevard in Europe. Johnny Logan wrote "Vision Of Glory" for a boxing opening ceremony, which he sang as a duet with Montserrat Caballe. Wrote and sang "Love To Live" the official song for the German organisation "Sportler für Organspende" (charity).

1998

Released the album "What's Another Year". Recorded the duet "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" with Wendy van Wan. Johnny Logan supported the charity organisation "Children In Need".

1999

Released the album "Love Is All" produced by Jack White in Germany. The album includes Johnny Logan's own version of the old classic McCartney-song "Silly Love Songs" as well as a new version of Johnny Logan's breakthrough song from 1980 "What's Another Year". Wrote and sang the official song "Anthem ´99 – If You Believe" to The Opening Ceremony of the 43rd World Nordic Ski Championships held in Ramsau, Austria

2000 Recorded the song "Music" with Robert Wells.

2001 Released the album ”Save This Christmas For Me” produced by Boe Larsen, Oli Poulsen, SoulPoets and Stig Kreutzfeldt in Denmark. The album includes a duet with “Friends”, the winners of the Swedish National Song Contest 2001. Released the album "Reach For Me" from Sony Music Denmark A/S, which went gold in Denmark after just eleven days. Recorded and live performed for the first time his own version of "Why Me" the song that made Linda Martin a winner in the Eurovision Song Contest 1992. Recorded the song "Let’s Make Love" twice, as a duet with Natasja Crone from Denmark and also as a duet with Barbara Dex from Belgium. Recorded the duet "No One Makes Love Like You/Niemand liebt so wie Du" with the former Eurovision Song Contest winner Nicole from Germany. Recorded the song "Hold Me Now 2001" with the producers SoulPoets and Oli Poulsen, which is a new version of "Hold Me Now" from the Eurovision Song Contest 1987. Celebrated his 47th birthday at the Eurovision Song Contest 2001 - After Party held in Copenhagen, Denmark. Performed numerous live concerts and appeared on several television shows in Europe. Performed at the Danish National Song Contest 2001 held in Herning, Denmark. Toured with Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra in "The Beatles Music in Concert". Performed at the "Corine internationaler Buchpreis 2001" in Munich, Germany. Performed New Year Eve at the Dutch Euro-show "Nacht van de Euro" in Theater aan het Vrijthof, Maastricht. The show was live broadcasted on Dutch television.

2002 Performed at the German Euro-show "Bye-Bye Deutsche Mark" in Estrel Convention Center, Berlin - Europe's largest congress center. The show was live broadcasted on German television. Performed at the Finnish final for the Eurovision Song Contests 2002 held in Tampere, Finland. Performing numerous live concerts and appearing on several television shows in Europe.
