Lisa Del Bo
In her birth country of Belgium, Lisa del Bo is a true crowd-pleaser – no miracle since the tall singer who is just as sparkling as she is charming, comes from the ‘celebritystables’ of manager and producer Piet Roelen, who discovered Helmut Lotti and made him the star he is. Her 1998-1999 albums ‘Best of the 60s’ and ‘best of the 50s’ reached the Gold and Platinum status and resulted in a huge oldie-revival.In 2001 the album ‘Best of the 50s’ was also released in Germany: 12 top songs from the 50s - ………, with their modern and spicy arrangments and fresh interpretations by Lisa, the songs are very dancable and wake up a ‘sing-a-long’ feeling.

On her swinging journey through the decades, Lisa del Bo is currently stopping at the ‘Station of the 40s’. ‘Where are the times – The best of the 40s’ is the title and the programme of an entertaining journey through the pop music from the war and after-war era with 16 German, English and French titles. Of course Lili Marleen, Lale Andersens melancholic love song, is one of the selected musical delicacies of the 40s revival, just like Charles Trenets Chanson ‘La Mer’ and ‘BMBDS’ and ‘RACC’ by the Andrew Sisters. Her funky, light performance and Peter Koelewijns spicy arrangments make all those old Melodies shine brightly again.Nat King Coles balald ML has been transformed to a cheerful country-swinger; Bing Crosbys SOAS – with Helmut Lotti as a duetpartner – sounds almost like rock’n’roll. And with her versions of the songs that started the glorious era of America’s Country and Western songs ……., Lisa del Bo shows that she can easily conquer the audience in nashville’s Grand Ol’ opry.

Since the start of the 90s, Roelen and Del Bo have been working together. He discovered her in the ‘SoundmixShow’, a legendary Dutch singing contest on the commercial channel of VTM – a contest which she on in 1990 with the song ‘Whats a woman’ by the group vaya con dios. What followed afterwards is best described as the difficult yet pleasant road of working, tears and sweat, which every talented singer has to walk on. LDB, who actually only took part in the contest ‘for the fun of it’ and who was entered in the contest by friends, something she knew nothing about, was suddenly in the centre of the national attention: ‘After that I did not want a professional career at all. I had a nice husband, two children and a houselife full of harmony. Yet, once I had to give an interview and perform some songs and suddenly people described me as a crowd-favorite,’ Lisa tells us. ‘Luckily enough, I had Roelen by my side, who gave me all the time I needed, and I thank him for the peaceful and pleasant start of my career.’ In 1993 Roelen asked Del Bo to take part in the national song contest for the Grand Prix Eurovision. She agreed to it and at two a.m. the phone rang and it was Roelen telling his singer that he found the perfect song ‘Butterfly’ for her. She finished second, but her song became a huge hit back home in Belgium.During Del Bo’s ‘learning and experimenting’ year, in which she took up singing lessons and toured all over Belgium, she experienced everything what a singer can experience. ‘That was a good lessons: the phoney playback-performances, music that does not start when it should, electricity that suddenly falls away, light that switches off during a performance… she learned a lot about her work from these performances and of course also those that did go right and nowadays it takes a huge disaster for her to panic, she learned to approach everything with humour.,‘ says the sympathich, pretty Lisa, who, with her beautiful brown eyes, reminds us of Audrey Hepburn. She is not afraid to meet and sing with the biggest stars of the earth, something she has done frequently trhough out her career. She has a great deal of respect when I meet a big artist, but I always remind myself that we are all equal. And don’t feel bigger or smaller than anyone. That’s how she can see Helmut Lotti like a big brother whom she admires. He can do simply anything, he is a big star and an even bigger human being.’

Lisa’s next test case came in 1996, during the famous Songfestival of Knokke. This time Lisa won the contest. She also won the belgian prelims to the Eurovision Song Contest with the song ‘Love is a card game’. With her cheerful song Lisa represented her nation at the Eurosongfestival in Oslo. Shortly after, her cd ‘Lisa del Bo’ was released on which also Helmut Lotti sang a song which led to the two singing a duet ‘This world today is a mess’. It became a huge hit. For this debut album, the artist received her first golden record. Two years later – by now Roelen had attracted Peter Koelewijn to the team, the singer and her team where able to place another coup. ‘We made our dream about an album of oldies from the 60s and 50s become reality. I did it with heart and soul. The songs we chose are known by everybody, they are unique, poppy and still of a very high level. Best of the 60s (98) and Best of the 50s (99) – which reached Gold and Platinum in Belgium – were released in Germany in the opposite order. The release was launched with Lisa’s first ever single in Germany, Á ship shall come’, originally by the legendary Lale Andersen.Lisa del Bo lives in Belgian Limburg, still in the town where she was born on the 9th of June in 1961, under the Zodiac sign of Gemini. Following family tradition, sge sang with the church children’s choir and started her own youth choir at the age of 19. ‘We were a cheerful, happy household. Mom Lisa (78) was a tailorette. She made my first stage-costumes. A beeautiful, strong woman. My father (80), a quiet, thinking man, worked as a construction worker. I can remember that there was always a lot of singing going on in our house, since my 5 siblings, 1 brother and 4 sisters, and I were all very musical. With my cousin, who plays the guitar, I performed often during family parties. Not once did I ever think of a singing career, though,’ the artists says, who after high school entered the university of economics.

Husband Joske, whom she is married to since the age of 19, has always been the man by her side; the one who always guided her before and after her stage performances, the one she believed in. This family happiness was completed with daughter Krisia (17) and son Eli (11) being born. Lisa Í completely live for my children. When the matter of starting a career in Germany came up, I discussed it with them first, but Krisia immediately said – Mommy, when you go to Germany, go without bad feelings and enjoy it, because I will look after Eli.’Lisa del Bo – a happy woman, a singer who shines from within and who is able to make people get on their feet with her arts and her wonderfullness. Great, that she finally came to Germany!
