Remember History
Written April 2002
Those who fail to remember history are doomed
to repeat it,
Or so some teachers say.
But we should listen to those teachers,
Because they are correct.
This is a ballad of a boy named Joe.
He paid no attention to sayings in class.
What teachers said went in one ear and out the other,
And he paid the price.
This Joe, he was a selfish boy.
He wanted power,
And lots of it,
Forgetting what happened to people like John W. Booth.
He tried to break into the White House
And kill Mr. George W. Bush.
He went on a moonless night, around midnight,
But he was caught.
Poor Joe, caught and tried.
Found guilty of attempted murder,
Sentenced to death,
Having forgotten the consequences of others who had tried.
Those who fail to remember history are doomed to repeat it,
Or so some teachers say.
But we should listen to those teachers,
Because they are correct.
