SAMUEL DOOLITTLE, 3rd s of Samuel #160, b 1755 or before prob in Dutchess Co. N.Y. where parents res before rem to Shaftsbury in s-w Vt. The father was agrantee at Shaftsbury in 1779 and called "yeoman" and 2 yrs later for $500 bought also a 200 acre farm there, lots 18 &19 in 1st Division from Sam Robinson. He sold 60 acres in east lot of this tract 23 Apr 1782 to his s Samuel, jr. for L26. Witness to the deed was MOses Doolittle and Thomas Mattinson (Land Records at Shaftsbury). Both Samuels were mentioned as of Shaftsbury in the deed. Samuel, Sr. appeared 7 yrs later, in April 1789 to acknowledge the above deed, and was then in his 70th yr. This was evidently the 60 acres in lots 18 and 19 of 1st Division at Shaftsbury sold 12 Jan 1791 for L200 by Samuel, Jr. to John Doolittle, both of Shaftsbury. Jan 20 1719 for conveys to Samuel Jr. half of a 60 a in ots 18 and 19 of 1st Dividsion for L200 and gave Sam jr. mortgage dated 12 Jan 1795 in above two transaction which he appeared personally and acknowledged 18 June 1793 (Land Rec at S-),Witnesses: Thomas and David Mattinson. Samuel d Springfield, Otsego Co.N.Y.; his will of 20 July 1813 mentions sons Samuel, Elijah, John, widow, "my several children that are now under age" unnamed. The census for 1810 gives him 2 sons to 26, 2 daughters to 10, 2 daughters to 16. In 1800 he was over 45 but his wife was under 45. One mortgage given to Thos. Mattison of Shaftsbury 12 Jan 1719; other mortgage given to Samuel Doolittle, Jr. now of Springfield, Otsega,N.Y. Deed recorded in Shaftsbury dated 18 June 1793. Poss one of his ch had d by 1810 as a note says Samuel had 7 ch by 1791.
Samuel was in comp of Capt Peleg Mattison's Vt.
militia from S-- "in expedition to northward" in 1781, pd for 9 days
LI:6:4. Later 1 Nov sm yr Sam served under Capt Eli Noble of Castleton, Vt. in
Nov 1781". The name of his wf is unknown and Samuel d Springfield, Otsego
Co. N.Y.
