Elephant on Art Deco Building in Ann Street, Belfast

Mystery solved -see below!

Something of a mystery when the first version of this page was posted, more information on this small shop is now available. Further research has identified this building as the former Burton Shop, dating from 1932.

The architect was N Martin of the Burtons Design Office. The elephant capital was designed by E A Moore. I now understand that this elephant has some brothers, in that similar designs were used by Burtons on several shops in England. A herd of elephants perhaps?
